Typical "summer" beach at the Boardwalk, Santa Cruz. The mouth of the San Lorenzo River (foreground) is blocked by natural beach accretion forming a large pond.

February 8, 1998Boardwalk-2/8

"El Niño winter" beach at the Boardwalk. Floods on the San Lorenzo River (foreground) have completely removed summer beach deposits at the rivermouth.
