Magnetics

Magnetism of the rocks and sediment of the sea floor is collected via a proton procession magnetometer. The earth's gravity field can also be measured by the use of a gravimeter. Together these measurements are called "geopotential." It was measurements of this kind that most directly convinced geologists of the validity of the plate tectonic theory.
