08/09/05 Geospeakers Meeting SummaryThis will be brief, because you heard from me last week due to scheduling difficulties, and my time is short. Here's the cast of characters for Geospeakers meeting on August 9, 2005: Toastmaster: Shane Detweiler A guest, Dazerine, included us in her visiting of local clubs. Everyone did their stuff with usual aplomb, including new folks Mary Caroline and Liz who set high standards of novice aplombity. Alas, I can invent words now, but could I use the perfectly good word of the day "macrocosm"? I think we know the answer. Liz led us through a delightful history of her career development, from making a security device from a home kit (at 11, needed to break Mom of bad habit of checking that she was in bed asleep so she could ever have a teen social life!) to photographic experiments with staged still life, to a physics career embellished with studies of painting, drawing and massage. Her dad teased her about studying art, pretending it was a guy friend. She still loves physics and art and is between careers sorting out what to do next. In view of space shuttle Discovery's successful landing, our own NASA link Cynthia chose "Space" as the theme of Table Topics. She asked questions about inner and outer space, whether people or the US should be in space and why, what you would do if in charge of the space program. Everyone got votes today, as all were H, I or E to some extent in their replies to Cynthia's well-chosen questions. Today's trophy tenders are:
Our next meeting is August 23rd. Meanwhile, clear your minds in preparation to volunteer to be a contestant or otherwise assist at the Area C-2 Humorous and Evaluation Speech Contests happening HERE at the end of September. |
