Surface Wave Investigation and Analysis Earthquake-Induced Liquefaction Sites in Asia

Index Back to home page About these web pages Example data set Phase 3 Phase 2 Phase 1 Project objectives Abstract
Project Objectives

• Target liquefaction sites of high ground motion intensity (Japan and Taiwan)

• Re-evaluate shear wave-based boundary curves for triggering liquefaction

Graph of target area of sites in the high intensity zone.

The Problem:
Limited USA Field Data

Map of earthquake sites in Japan.

The Solution: Test where liquefaction damage sites are abundant

SASW test site locations in Japan and Taiwan.

In 2001 and 2002 we revisited liquefaction damage locations from all the major earthquake events in Japan and Taiwan, from 1948 to present, and tested 182 new sites with SASW.
