Purpose
Determine extent of Acid and Metal Flux into Intertidal Zone
Information to be Derived
Distribution of mine wastes along the shoreline; extent of sulfide oxidation
and resulting flux of acid and metals into the intertidal and subtidal zones.
Summary
Collected about 50 samples of fresh surface water, pore water, and seawater
(pH, alkalinity, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen analyzed in the field, IC
and ICP-MS analyses in USGS labs); collected about 30 rock (sulfides), 15
sediment (mud), and 8 precipitate samples (analyzed by ICP-MS in USGS labs).
