Purpose
Document several centuries of environmental and sedimentological changes in
Mobile Bay caused by natural and anthropogenic forces.
Information to be Derived
Ground-truth seismic data, investigation of shallow geologic framework,
sediment grain size analysis, identification of Foraminifera presence and
abundance and determine lithostratigraphic unit contact boundaries.
Summary
Approximately 22 cores (10 vibracores, 3 gravity cores and 8 box cores) were
collected from Mobile Bay and adjacent sub-bays. They are currently being
examined by both the USGS SPCMSC and WHCMSC. Approximately 90 nm of seismic
data was collected and currently is being processed by staff at the WHCMSC.
