Purpose
The purpose of this fieldwork is to ground truth geophysical data collected
during previous research cruises.
Information to be Derived
Ground truthing of geophysical data will include the investigation subsurface
sedimentological properties using: lithostratigraphic interpretation, age
dating, photographic documentation, and grain size analysis.
Summary
Approximately 60-70 sediment cores will be obtained at various locations around
the Mississippi barrier Island complex. These sedimentological data will help
to understand the integral geomorphological properties of barrier island
sustainability and natural migration.
