Purpose
|
Seafloor mapping (using multibeam sonar and deep-towed
camera) and sampling (by dredge) of fossil and live cold-water
corals for paleo-oceanographic and ecological studies.

Summary
|
Multibeam bathy was collected continuously. 6 TOWCAM
transects completed. 3 CTDs completed. 51 trawls and dredges
deployed and rocks, corals, and other animals photographed and
preserved. See bound cruise report for more information.

Notes
|
Navigation technique: gps;.
Seafloor mapping (using multibeam sonar and deep-towed camera) and samp
ling (by dredge and trawl) of fossil and live cold-water corals for paleo-oceano
graphic and ecological studies.
All multibeam and photographic data and fossil coral
specimens will be archived at WHOI. Modern coral specimens will be
archived at University of Hawaii. A separate scientific party from
the University of Texas shared the shiptime. They collected
multibeam bathymetry, underway magnetics and multichannel seismics
and dredged rock samples. Those data are not part of this project
and are archived at Univ. of Texas (P.I.s: Ian Dalziel and Larry
Lawver)
37 days at sea.
62 stations occupied.
