Description Lab is designed to process, display, and generate maps from high-resolution multibeam data, and to archive the data onto CD-ROMs.

Equipment
and
Technique
We can process, display, and generate maps from high-resolution multibeam data. We also have the capabilities to archive our data on CD-ROM.

We use University of New Brunswick's Ocean Mapping Group software to process multibeam data.

We use Interactive Visual Systems software to interactively fly through color and/or black & white georeferenced seafloor images (sidescan and/or bathymetry). With this software we can create oblique views, combine backscatter and bathymetry into a single image, and quantitatively analyze the images. In addition we can combine georeferenced data of different resolution into a single or multiple images. We can combine multiband satellite, USGS DEMs, Seasat altimetry, etc. with our own multibeam data for overviews of any area of interest.

We use inhouse-developed procedures to generate hard-copy color and/or black & white maps of the seafloor. All datasets are routinely exported to the Branch Arc/Info GIS.
