Description This laboratory is designed for general wet chemistry and sample preparation. Proposed research utilizing this lab will address the fate and transport of sediment-associated contaminants in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Bioavailable metals will be extracted from sediments and suspended matter using an acid extraction method.

This laboratory is also set up to extract through dissolution and fractional precipitations, separate through liquid chromatography, and purify through solvent extraction the U-series isotopes for measurement by alpha or mass spectroscopy.

Specialized
Equipment
  1. Analytical balances
  2. Centrifuges
  3. Drying ovens and furnaces
  4. Autochemistry system for pH and auto-titration
  5. Ultasonic probe and bath
  6. Instrumentation includes pH meters and total carbon analyzer
