Our transcription: One such imaging device is currently being used to map the territorial waters of the United States. In 1983, the Federal Government expanded this region to include all terrain within 200 miles of American shores. The U. S. Geological Survey was assigned the task of mapping this enormous new acquisition for possible future development of resources. At the core of this effort is a sophisticated echo sounding technology called "GLORIA" GLORIA enables broad areas of the sea floor on either side of a ship to quickly be scanned. Unlike traditional sonar, which only provides a profile of the sea floor directly beneath the ship.
