The GLORIA data exists only as digitized bits of information in a computer, which must be processed and enhanced to create images showing the topography of the sea floor. Ultimately, other valuable information will come from GLORIA work. Depths may be accurately determined for locations far away from the research vessel and using characteristics of reflected sonic energy, it may even be possible to determine the type of material making up the sea bed.
