Delays in both transportation and communication are widespread, but the city is still functioning.
Unfortunately, the situation some distance to the south is less encouraging.
The quake's epicenter is located near a peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains called "Loma Prieta," and it is communities closest to Loma Prieta like Santa Cruz, Watsonville, and Los Gatos that have actually been hit the hardest.
