Our transcription: Geologists at Katmai would also like to learn more about the relationships of ore deposits to volcanic activity, for in the fumerolic gasses in the Valley of 10,000 Smokes, metallic ore minerals have formed.
Since the eruption of 1912, streams have cut deep channels into the ash deposits exposing many of the fumeroles in cross section.
This allows geologists to examine the structure and mineral deposits beneath the fumeroles ordinarily hidden from view.
Especially intriguing are mineral deposits sublimated from the hot volcanic vapors.
