Keywords: "James Sadd", volcano, agriculture, "ocean basin", water, ocean, atmosphere, geologist

Our transcription: The benefits of volcanoes extend beyond our homes and agriculture even beyond human history.

Oceanic volcanism recreates the Earth's ocean basins about once every 120 million years.

And volcanism early in Earth's history is thought to have produced most of the water in our oceans and atmosphere.

So volcanoes attract the attention of geologists for many reasons: for their power to destroy, and their economic benefits, and ultimately for their critical role in the evolution of our planet.
