Our transcription: At the water's surface, the circular orbit of the water particle has a diameter that is roughly equal to the height of the wave. As one looks below the surface, however, the orbit gets smaller and smaller until there is virtually no motion of water at all. The downward limit of wave motion in the water is called the "wave base," and it's directly related to how far apart the waves are at the surface. The depth of the wave base is equal to about half the "wavelength," which is the distance between the crests and two waves.
