Summary
|
In spite of weather and island-related logistical
challenges, the team was able to sample 10 existing wells and
approximately 10 piezometer profiles at two transect sites in Kismet and
Watch Hill, collect approximately 20 groundwater samples from distributed
piezometer sites along the shore of Great South Bay, and make seepage
meter measurements over two days at each of the transect sites.
Approximately 130 groundwater samples for some or all of the following
parameters or analyses were collected from most sampling sites:
temperature, pH, salinity, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen in mg
per liter and percent saturation, oxidation-reduction potential, dissolved
gases (methane, nitrous oxide, radon), DOC/DIC, nutrients (nitrate,
nitrite, ammonium, phosphate), metals, MIMS N2-Ar, nitrogen species
isotopes, and pharmaceuticals. A time series of radon in water, salinity,
temperature, and tidal stage data was also collected from a moored raft at
the Watch Hill piezometer transect site. These data will complement
previous data from Patchogue and from electrical resistivity surveys in
the bay.
