- Title:

Dive and Sampling data of field activity W-1-06-MB in
Submarine canyons of the central California coast from
04/27/2006 to 05/01/2006
- Abstract:
-
Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute,United States
Geological Survey, Menlo Park, California. Chief Scientist:
Charlie Paull, MBARI. Dive and Sampling data (ROV) of field
activity W-1-06-MB in Submarine canyons of the central
California coast from 04/27/2006 to 05/01/2006,
<http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/infobank/w/w106mb/html/w-1-06-mb.meta.html>.
- Supplemental_Information:
-
Equipment Used -
ROV
Notes -
(1) Station IDs reflect the Tiburon dive numbers set by MBARI.
(2) Sample numbers for the push cores are generally not consecutive but
reflect permanent labels on coring and other devices that are randomly chosen
before each dive, and many of the push cores are reused in later dives.
USGS sample protocol could not used during dives except for the Activity ID
(W-1-05-SC).
(3) Sample numbers recorded in FACS reflect only those samples that will be
brought to the USGS for logging, description, and, in most cases, archiving.
(4) Water samples collected by CTD/rosette sampler are not entered in FACS log
because samples are processed on board for an MBARI program.

ROV Tiburon and CTD/rosette sampler (all MBARI equipment). Tiburon will be used
to map and sample the sea floor (see Purpose and Goals above). The CTD/rosette
sampler is for detection of methane gas in the water column within the canyons
generally at the ROV dive sites.
Similar information is available for thousands
of other USGS/CMG-related Activities.
If known, available are Activity-specific
navigation, gravity, magnetics, bathymetry,
seismic, and sampling data; track maps; and
equipment information; as well as summary
overviews, crew lists, and information
about analog materials.
If available, access to physical samples is
described in the "WR CMG Sample Distribution
Policy" at:

This is a Point data set.
It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):
- What coordinate system is used to represent geographic features?
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude.
Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001.
Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001.
Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is North American Datum of 1983.
The ellipsoid used is Geodetic Reference System 80.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257.
