You must tell YoNav which external devices you have and which ports they are connected to. Remember, you only have to do this once: at the beginning of a cruise.
From the Edit menu, choose Nav Sensor Setup.
Not every device needs additional configuration; if the device does not need it, the Configure button will be grayed out. If the device does need it, however, it will be selectable.
If the Triton Isis device is added, for example, the following additional configuration window appears:

Click on the Test button to verify that data is being transmitted from the remote device. Once you click on the Test button, the following window appears:

Once you have configured ALL your devices for YoNav, you must specify which ones you want to use for this particular cruise. Vessels often have multiple sensory equipment and this brief exercise allows you to identify which of the various devices you want to use as your primary data sources. The purpose of this step is to inform the server which device you want to assign to the primary roles. You will be asked to tell YoNav the primary source of positioning, water depth and vessel heading. In some cases there will only be a single sensor that can provide this information to YoNav so your choice will be obvious. In other cases, there may be more than one sensor that can provide position, depth or heading and you will need to consult the chief scientist or lead technician to decide which sensor to use.
Note: The YoNav Server records ALL data from ALL sensors. In this particular dialog box, you are merely specifying which sensor you want to use as your PRIMARY data source. You can change sensors at any time and all the data for all sensors is still recorded. This dialog is used to arbitrate the selection of Position, Bathy and Heading sensors when more than one of these types of sensors have been configured.
To get started with the vessel tracking parameters choose Setup Tracked Vessel from the Edit menu.

The Configure Vessel Tracking Parameters window appears.
Note: YoNav is currently designed to track a single vessel entitled "Default1" or "Untitled". Do not try to add additional vessels.
Note: In the example shown above, only one option exists for each sensor. This is NOT always the case. If you had configured multiple GPS receivers in the initial YoNav Server setup, for example, two receivers would appear in the Position Sensor field.
You should now be receiving data in the lower portion (Navigation) of the Server box. Data is being transmitted from the sensors to the Server. If you are not receiving data, see Troubleshooting the YoNav Server for details on potential problems.
Note these two important points about saving and exiting YoNav Server:
Note: Currently, saving multiple configurations is not supported. You do not need to formally save a configuration using the Save command; the last configuration saved is the only one the Server will recognize.
From the File menu, choose Exit.
You have now configured the YoNav Server and saved your configuration.
