Step 1: Install equipment on vessel

Much of this installation will be performed for you. For details, see installation page.

• Minimum requirements to use YoNav.
• Considerations when installing the hardware.

Step 2: Make electrical connections from all external devices to YoNav

• For details on which devices YoNav supports, see the Features page.
• For details on RS-232 cabling requirements, see the Connections page.

Step 3: Start YoNav Server, configure all devices, exit YoNav Server

• For details on how to start, configure, and exit the YoNav Server, see the software documentation page.
• To save yourself time, read the section entitled Pre-Cruise Considerations for information on preliminary data you will need to have and which preferences you should set in advance.

Step 4: Start YoNav Client and create new survey

• For details on how to create a new survey and use the YoNav Client software, see the YoNav Map Client Software page.

Software requirements

In order to run YoNav, you must have the following software:

• Windows NT 4.0 (or later)
• YoNav Server vV2.03 (or later)
• YoNav Client vV2.03 (or later)

Hardware requirements

In order to run YoNav, you must have the following hardware:

Minimum hardware

• Intel processor, 486/66MHz
• 16 Mb RAM
• VGA monitor
• At least one available serial port

Recommended hardware

• Pentium
• 32 Mb RAM
• VGA monitor
• An 8 or 16 port multiple serial IO board such as the Stargate, Digi-board or Comtrol products

Hardware installation location issues

Keep the following issues in mind when installing sensitive electronic hardware on a sea-going vessel:

• Keep the hardware out of direct sunlight
• Place in cool location
• Use a surge protector
• Keep the hardware away from sea spray
