Acoustic Backscatter of Lake Tahoe, California-Nevada. The brighter tones may indicate harder surfaces such as rock, while the the darker tones may indicate softer surfaces such as sediment. The surrounding land is a shaded relief image generated from USGS 10-m DEMs. The lake is about 34 km (21 miles) long, north to south.
