Abstract:
This is a digital data set including hydrographic sounding data of the approaches to Grays Harbor, Washington, collected by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District. The original data set has been evaluated for errors and/or inaccuracies and reprojected to Washington Stateplane, FIPS 4602, meters. Attributes inlcude easting, northing, depth-navd(m), depth-mllw(m), cartographic code, survey name, and survey year.
Purpose:
This data set is intended for use as an historical bathymetric data set for scientific research. It is not intended for navigational use. The data were originally aquired for bathymetric change analysis as part of the Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study (SWCES), a cooperative study by the US Geological Survey and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
Supplemental_Information:
The SWCES was initiated to examine coastal geology, processes, and natural hazards within the Columbia River littoral cell. The study is jointly directed by the U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program and the Washington State Department of Ecology Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, with active participation of local communities in Pacific and Grays Harbor counties. Digital data were aquired directly from the USACEin the format easting(ft), northing(ft), depth-mllw-feet in Washington State Plane South-NAD83/91 Zone 4602. The original data filename is 98annual.dat

Data were reprojected to Washington Stateplane South-NAD83, FIPS 4602 and MLLW meters.

NAVD88 depths were calculated using the offset determined at the Westport tide gauge, where NAVD88 depth = -0.46m + MLLW depth.

The data set was evaluated for errors and/or inaccuracies and apparent problems with several tracklines were identified. There are six overlapping tracklines in this survey. Tracklines collected from west to east are problematic. Cartographic codes were changed to reflect this. Tracklines collected from east to west are coded 701-706. Tracklines collected from west to east are coded 881-887.

Soundings coded 881-887 should not be used for analysis.
