Abstract:
This is a digital data set including multibeam hydrographic sounding data collected in and around Grays Harbor, Washington during the summer of 1999. The original data set has been reprojected to Washington Stateplane, FIPS 4602, meters. Attributes inlcude easting, northing, depth-navd(m), depth-mllw(m), cartographic code, survey name, and survey year.
Purpose:
This data set is intended for use as an historical bathymetric data set for scientific research. It is not intended for navigational use. The data were originally aquired for bathymetric change analysis as part of the Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study (SWCES), a cooperative study by the US Geological Survey and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
Supplemental_Information:
The SWCES was initiated to examine coastal geology, processes, and natural hazards within the Columbia River littoral cell. The study is jointly directed by the U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program and the Washington State Department of Ecology Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, with active participation of local communities in Pacific and Grays Harbor counties. Process_Description:
Digital data were aquired directly from Roger Flood in the format latitude(83), longitude(83), depth-navd (m). This is a 10m spaced point output from a grid generated from the entire data set. These data are considered the best solution of the z values determined from the RTK adjustments. Values are approximately 0 to 0.5 meters shallower than the 50m data set. See vertical_control.pdf for more information on datum adjusments.

Data were reprojected to Washington Stateplane South-NAD83, FIPS 4602

MLLW depths were calculated using the offset determined by Flood et al., where MLLW depth = - 0.5m NAVD88 depth.

MLLW depths are somewhat arbitrary and NAVD88 depths should be used when possible.
