Abstract:
This is a digital data set including hydrographic sounding data of the approaches to and including Willapa Bay, Washington, collected by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station,Vicksburg, MS. The original data set has been reprojected to Washington Stateplane, FIPS 4602, meters. The survey area was clipped to include only the inner and outer delta areas and the data set filtered to reduce filesize. Attributes inlcude easting, northing, depth-navd(m), depth-mllw(m), and survey name.
Purpose:
This data set is intended for use as an historical bathymetric data set for scientific research. It is not intended for navigational use. The data were originally aquired for bathymetric change analysis as part of the Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study (SWCES), a cooperative study by the US Geological Survey and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
Supplemental_Information:
The SWCES was initiated to examine coastal geology, processes, and natural hazards within the Columbia River littoral cell. The study is jointly directed by the U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program and the Washington State Department of Ecology Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, with active participation of local communities in Pacific and Grays Harbor counties. Digital data (all572619.pts) were aquired directly from the USACEin the format easting(ft), northing(ft), depth-mllw-feet in Washington State Plane South-NAD83/91 Zone 4602.

Data were reprojected to Washington Stateplane South-NAD83, FIPS 4602 and MLLW meters.

The original data set (willapa98) was clipped to include only the inner and outer delta areas and filtered to reduce filesize.

NAVD88 depths were calculated using the offset determined at the Toke Point tide gauge, where NAVD88 depth = -0.24m + MLLW depth.

Data were collected using a combination of a Single 3 Degree Beam, 200 Khz Transducer and SHOALS lidar. Tides were reduced using RTK tides
