Sea floor mapping of coastal areas along the Elizabeth Islands.
Information to be Derived
Sea floor map;Bathymetric maps;
The nearshore areas along both the Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay
sides of the Elizabeth Islands extending from Quicks Hole to the western
end of Sow and Pigs Reef were surveyed by using swath bathymetric,
sidescan sonar, and seismic-reflection techniques. Equipment problems and
weather limited the survey to six days. The data were all of high quality
although subbottom penetration on the seismic data was limited for much of
the area because of extensive fields of boulders.
